3 Day Campus Power Outage – 12/31 to 01/02

There will be a planned power outage December 31 to January 2 to tie-in the Engineering Building complex to the campus power grid at substation A.  Below is the current plan.  Any changes in the schedule or duration of outages will be announced.

  • All College of Sciences buildings on the main campus will be impacted.  See buildings included in power outage below.
  • All power outlets in the Chemical Sciences building, not on the buildings emergency generator, will be down for the entire 2-3 day period.
  • Campus primary electrical distribution system will be taken off line 2 times for 4-6 hours on Saturday December 31st from 6 AM to 12 PM and Monday January 2nd from 9 AM to 3 PM.  Power will be down for these 4-6 hour periods to all buildings not covered by emergency generators.
  • Power to non-critical loads will be shed for the 3 day period to reduce the demands on generators installed to backup substation A.
  • Computers, servers, and sensitive equipment should be shut down on or prior to Friday 12/30. 
  • Campus network equipment will restart following the outages.

Buildings impacted

  • Chemical Sciences- Only outlets on the buildings emergency generator will be powered for the 2-3 day period.  Outlets on the emergency generator are orange.   The rest of the building will largely be without power for the entire 2-3 day period.  Critical equipment that needs to be supported must be identified.
  • GMCSis not covered by emergency generator power.  Power will be lost during the 2 outages of 4-6 hours.  Critical equipment that needs to be supported must be identified.
  • Physical Sciences is not covered by emergency generator power.  Power will be lost during the 2 outages of 4-6 hours.  Critical equipment that needs to be supported must be identified.
  • Physics and Astronomy are not covered by emergency generator power.  Power will be lost during the 2 outages of 4-6 hours.  Critical equipment that needs to be supported must be identified.
  • BioScience Center Only outlets on the buildings emergency generator will be powered for the 2 outages of 4-6 hours.  Outlets on the emergency generator are orange.  Power will be lost briefly during transitions to emergency generator power.
  • North Life Sciences The entire building is covered by an emergency generator.  Power will be lost briefly during transitions to emergency generator power.
  • South Life Sciences The entire building is covered by an emergency generator.  Power will be lost briefly during transitions to emergency generator power.

Other non-College of Sciences buildings

  • Engineering, Professional Studies and Fine Arts, Hepner Hall, Art North and South, Arts and Letters, Storm Hall and Nasatir Hall are not covered by emergency generator power.  Power will be lost during the 2 outages of 4-6 hours.  Critical equipment that needs to be supported must be identified.
